CDL/DOT Physical Exam – Hearing Loss

To meet the Federal hearing standard, the driver must successfully complete one hearing test with one ear.

Regulations — driver must:

1. First perceive a forced, whispered voice *in one ear *at not less than five feet, OR
2. Not have an average hearing loss *in one ear *greater than 40 decibels (dB) at 500 hertz (Hz), 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz.

A driver may use a hearing aid to meet the standard.
